change of seasons

Once in awhile, the gang would stumble upon shiny, sparky, somewhat interesting things. From art, to random shenanigans. From profound, to inexplicably stupid. The birds do, find things.

I’m just going to be blunt and say it. A lot of shit comes out of VFS, a lot. But, just like any other big corporate entity, the school spends a lot of money in marketing the institution (often more than the money that they actually spend for the programs themselves.) At the Film Production program, only 6 Dramas get selected and made from each class, which makes the program quite competitive. I hate to say this, but for a creative school, VFS tends to opt for movies that are ’safe’ and easy to digest. The result? a lot of hokey comedies, and just a bunch of student movies that I just dislike or completely hate.

Heck, their student films. At least for me, what I’ve learned throughout the year seems to be a lot prettier than the final movies that we shit out through the year. This is one of the reasons why I was left with a weird after taste in my mouth once I graduated from the program.

However, once in awhile, there are a few gems that pass through the system and actually get made. Travis Callahan was one of the awesomest person that I’ve gotten to know from VFS (And Rheanne too! JOMG), at least from class 114.

His final film was one of a few stories that actually get me excited, even now after the whole film school fiasco is done. It’s a nice reminder, that good shit actually gets made once in awhile. Even when you have to go through the big bad corporate / studio system :P

Oh and I made the poster. Check out the film on youtube.
